Bukit jambul pan mee

Finally I managed to try the much talked about pan mee at bukit jambul. I've heard people telling me about this place but I never know where it is. It's actually very near to my workplace and home. It's behind malvest plaza below a low cost flat.

But I actually found the area very nice and cooling. We sat at the open area which is in actual fact the compound of the low cost flat.

The weather just now was just perfect! :))) except for the pesky cats who wound up and down my leg -_-"

So here's the pan mee. I was told this was large.

Doesn't look very "photogenic" does it? But it's pretty good. The pan mee is "q" and the crispy anchovies really adds a crunch. Not forgetting the nice chilli.

And they only have one type of drinks which is leng teh (herbal tea)

My boss also ordered rojak from a neighbouring stall

Very colorful :) I think this is the first time I had rojak in Penang! Omg...

I'm surprised to find that it comes with cuttlefish and mangoes. Hmm. Certainly different from our Kuching rojak which I've grown accustomed to.

Cake for dinner

These few days I have been buying food from my office cafe back for dinner because my dining partner have to work late. Yesterday afternoon, I was treated to a Japanese fusion buffet so I thought I'd go light for dinner and I didn't buy any food back. But I became hungry at around 6. Lol

There's still no gas in the new place and theres no food to cook except for eggs. So I dug around and found that I have enough ingredients to bake a peach cake :) 1 hour later,I have this for dinner!

Lol I modified the recipe from an upside down pineapple cake. Why upside down? Bcos u arrange the peaches/pineapples on the bottom of the tray and when you've baked it,you turn it upside down and you can see the fruit slices on top.

I'm amazed what some butter, flour, eggs and sugar can yield!

Only in Penang

Even though we are all part of Malaysia (I'm not going to be corny and say 1malaysia), there were a few different practices here in Penang that I never see in Kuching. Simple things like his we order drinks from the coffee shop. In kuching,if you want iced tea without sugar you say teh o kosong or you say teh o Mai pang terng (which is in hokkien)

In Penang, the first "culture shock" I got when I first sat down in a coffee shop was the auntie asking me teh o ai Liaw Mai?? I was like wth is "Liaw"??in Kuching, when you say lu ai kei Liaw bo means you wanto add extra "Liaw"? On the darker side of things, kei Liaw also sometimes mean adding some "extras" which are often nasty stuff. Lol

The other thing is,you know when you order kolo mee or laksa they will always come with a small sauce bowl with chillies or any other condiments? Well here in Penang they often dump the chilli into the dish itself like so...

I was a little pissed off at first because what do I do with the chillies if I don't want them?? Why I must eat the chilli one Meh?? But now I'm slowly getting used to it too. Bcos I just eat the chilli lor. Someone commented why I often choose spicier dishes nowadays. I think Penang food has changed my food preference somehow

The amazing Penang jam

The time is 745am,the skies became overcast with clouds and just when I was about to go out the rain started pouring.

My office is actually pretty near to my home. Normally it will only take 15-20mins to reach considering that i can reach within 5 mins without the morning jam (you can imagine how near it is)

But then this is how Penang people drive...

1 lane becoming 3 and everyoe don't want to let anyone cut into their lane. And the flood is of course not helping either.

Time I reached office??

A record breaking time of 9:05! The best thing is?? I was one of the earliest few to reach the office -_-"

Gift Cards from FriendGiftr

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of FriendGiftr. All opinions are 100% mine.

As i grew older, i realize one thing... that there were more gifts to buy for people every month. Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduations. And the most difficult question is, what to buy??? I always crack my mind on what to buy for my loved ones wandering around the shopping malls aimlessly can be very stressful. Sometimes, when i have decided to buy say a book for him/her only to find that he/she has already read it. And this is where FriendGiftr becomes useful.

With FriendGiftr you can buy and send either digital or real gift cards for your loved ones with a wide range of values between as little as $10 to $100. You can select from over 100 retailers to base your gift cards on depending on what your loved ones like without any hassle! But the most wonderful thing i find about this service is that, your loved ones can even swap their gift cards to a different merchant with no extra charge and without your knowledge. With friendgiftr, i sure would wish to be on the receiving end.

How many times have you received a gift that you do not need or do not want and yet you can't tell the person who gave it to you that. The partcipating merchants include famous brand names like Gap, H&M, Macy's,Banana Republic and many more! What's more, you can use the service not only from the website but even when you are on the go with your iphone, blackberry or android.

Food posts in this blog

It has been a long long time since I last posted blog posts on food and new eateries simpl bcos my blog has predominantly readers from Kuching. It would be purposeless to be posting blog posts on Penang food when there are almost NO Penang readers here.

But still I take numerous pictures of food I eat here. Only to find that I have nowhere to share them (except for fb but fb can't help me earn money). Sigh. To be honest,Penang food is not all that great la! I have been here for 1 year plus so I guess I can safely say that? Food that people "highly" recommended to me turn out to be soso also.

I guess Im still a "Kuching Lang" at heart thru n thru :) but of cos there's more variety compared to Kuching.

Anyway, here's a picha of my Thai chicken salad at station one cafe (it suxxx!)

Noodle house at d'piazza

Went to try out the new place at d'piazza. The establishment is air conditioned and looks clean nice. You can actually choose from a variety of pork/beef combination for your noodles. And you can choose either beehoon, cintan mee, glass noodles, etcetc.

This here is my pork meat soup noodle

Combi of pork belly, pork ribs, pork balls and lettuce

Someones beef meat soup with beef, beef balls and some tendon.

The meat itself was ok,nothig to shout about but the soup is very plain -_-" at a shop that calls itself a noodle house I expected either special hand made noodles or mad delicious broth. Neither of which I got.

The bill was pretty horrifying too

5% service charge???whAt service??? Ohhh I think they r charging us for the aircond! -_-"

Face turned green

Normally the English expression relating to your face turning green is when you are envious. E.g. Her face is turning green with envy. However, with the Chinese The color green is not used like that. Normally I will say "wahlau! I was so scared till my face turned green!" (bin chei chei). As for this morning,my face turned green but it was bcos I was having a bad tummy ache while stuck in a jam. The Diarrhea kind. Lol!

I suspect the culprit to be this wild boar curry I had last night

Looks good but it was spicy!

So I reached office with a green face and rushed to the toilet without another word more. The sight of the toilet bowl never made me happier :)

Mc Eggshell

While having breakfast at McD this morning with my favourite sausage mcmuffin with egg, i dont know why i just flip the muffin to look at the egg inside my burger (i dont usually do that) and lo and behold, i found a rather big piece of egg shell =_= Being paranoid after that, i took away the muffin and found another rather piece of egg shell...

Just few days ago, i was comparing KFC and McDonald's and i was saying McD has never failed me like KFC does...but.....sigh...

Yeah "Feeding your passion anytime, ANY WAY..." even with egg shells

Earning your Master of Arts Online

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of USC. All opinions are 100% mine.

After almost 10 years of graduating from college, the thought of going back to pursue a masters degree seems to drift further and further away each year. Most days, if i'm not required to stay back after office hours to finish up my piling work, then i'm too tired to even think of study when i get back home. Needless to say, weekends are normally used up to revive the energy lost during the weekdays. I've put serious thought in pursuing my masters degree but then it seems that the only way for me to be able to do it is to quit my full time job and to become a student full time. But then, that would mean i would have lost my source of income.

That is when i heard of USC Rossier School of Education’s MAT@USC that offers current educators the opportunity to earn a Masters of Arts from an elite university all from the comfort of your home! Yes, you are able to earn a masters degree online. Normally, most people would be put off by the thought of online learning as it lacks the "realness" of studying in a real classroom with classmates around you. But the USC's online program makes use of highly interactive online learning which includes video to get across the program information and there's even an accelerated program that allows you to complete your program in as short as 12 months. Further, the school has been ranked #22 in United States.

By enrolling for the online program, you will gain full student benefits and even the opportunity to participate in commencement ceremonies and free lifetime Alumni membership.

New place new stuffs

My 6 years old CRT monitor decided to kong off just a week before the house moving. Just great! When I'm about to spend all the bucks on house moving it decided to die on me! I thought of sending it for repair but someone asked me to buy a new LCD monitor instead bcos the one that died was his until last year. I had to settle for his hand me downs. Hmph.

The other reason being of course our new place has no lift! Eeps! He is clever. He knows who will be doing the carrying of the super duper heavy 21" CRT monitor Up 3 floors :p

So I went and bought myself a samsung 20" monitor 2 nights ago :)))

And behold...my new workstation in our new place! I must admit tho LCD monitors look more sleek and tidy :))) it costed me rm459

As u can see my new pc setup in the new place is now in the living room and so is his. Previously we used to put our PCs in our own room but his room in the new place is smaller and there's not enough space for him to put a pc in his room and so he "forced" me to put my pc outside too. Hrng...

Now I can't surf for hunky guys on the net in peace!!!

Moving day

After so many weeks of house searching it's finally moving day. In my Whole life,I've only moved house once and that was when I was only 6 years old. This is my 2nd time. And it's very hard work

Even though we hired a worker to help us dismantle the beds etc it's still a hassle to pack up all the clothes and belongings. We even had to sleep on the floor last night.

Well it's been a pleasant stay...

And this time,"pls come again" does not apply. Hehe

Frustration!!!

ok. i have to type this out somewhere before i explode into smithereens!!! there's this programmer at work who is SUPER kiasu, and always acts suspicious. During our last programmer's meeting, our boss assigned first TASK A to me and TASK B to her. So 2 days later, when i have already finished TASK A. She came and asked me, what was the task assigned to you the other day?

I said TASK A loh...

she said "isit??but i did TASK A woh!"

i said "no you were supposed to do TASK B (which i dont remember what it was) because boss assigned TASK A to me first and then TASK B to you"

she said "i dono wohhhh"

so i called our admin who were responsible to create "tickets" for us to write our programs. so i asked her which one's my task? she said TASK A for you and TASK B for her (the weirdo) ma !

then weirdo started singing a diff tune...oh..which database table did you call for your program? i said TABLE A . OH which one is mine? mine is calling TABLE B and C right (asking the admin)

i was like o_O if you already knew what table you were supposed to call why THE HELL did you still get confused on which task you were supposed to do!?!?!?

i REALLY don understand what she wanted to ask from me...SO PISSED!

Adventist bakery

Ive always heard of people telling me how nice and healthy the breads are at the Adventist bakery. But the bakery is way out of our usual route. If you don't already know,Adventist bakery actually started out baking bread for patients at the adventist hospital and it eventually became so popular!

But...

In conjunction with our workplace wellness program, they came to my company to set up stall selling their gooodies. Of cos I bought myself some bestsellers like the cinnamon roll and egg tarts.

The egg tarts were pretty good! Thick crunchy crust. I had one for tea yesterday...

And this morning I heated them up for breakfast..

Hehe. A little black now.

The cinnamon rolls were pretty good too! But the ones I bought were wholemeal cinnamon roll so it wasn't as good as it was supposed to be if it were plain.healthier food are normally less tastier :)
