Hello 2009, Goodbye 2008!

Spent our holiday on the 29th of Dec watching movies at the Star Cineplex...2 movies in 1 afternoon...back to back...wahaha...

yeah crazy i know...the worst thing was, both movies were almost equally bad :(
The Day the earth stood still sucks...and so did The Spirit altho not as bad 'x'

By the time we finished, i was movie-sick...feeling dizzy and nauseous =s

In between movies, i managed to shoot a few shots of kuchign city from the balcony...

Really like how the colorful shophouses look on the cool afternoon

At times we really take our little city for granted...always complaining of how backwards it is...but that afternoon i realised how our city is beautiful with its a unique rustic charm

and this is going to be my customary new year post in my blog :P

Wishing you a happy new year 2009...hope 2008 has treated you well...
I have given up on new year's resolutions 2 yrs ago...so there's nothing of that sort here :D

Christmas 2008

Listening to Christmas songs as i type out this post...everything feels very very christmassy now that Christmas eve is tomorrow!

After all the hustle and bustle and the preparation it is finally here...this year i made it a point to take photos of all the nice Christmas deco i see :)

Every year i vow not to do the same thing ... but come this Christmas i still am doing last minute shopping...this year being very last minute as i have still not yet finished my shopping!!!

Just one more day left...i think i will squeeze in some shopping time for 2nite and 2moro

But then again...Christmas is not really about presents rite?

This Christmas, let's not forget the original meaning of Christmas...

I will not wish you happy holidays or season's greetings but a MERRY AND BLESSED CHRISTMAS TO ALL!! =)

Chilling out at Starbucks

Tried out Starbuck's christmas specials...the Toffee Nut Latte

Really love it! sweet and nutty flavor that explodes into a bitter aftertaste in your mouth...unique!

Chicken pie (RM7.50) with cheese on top (RM2)

And blueberry cheese cake (RM9.50)

The chicken pie tastes better than Secret Recipe's but the secret recipe cheese cake wins hands down anytime

My First Attempt in making Rolled Fondant

Another baking-related post :P

Just now i experimented with fondant making. If you dont know what is fondant, here's the definition : An icing made of sugar syrup and glucose, which is cooked to a specific temperature and then kneaded to a smooth, soft paste. This paste can then be colored or flavored and used as an icing for cakes and petit fours.

These are all covered with fondant

You can actually color the fondant any color u like...it is originally white

hehe on a different note...lookie at my Christmas tree cookie cutter...

I m going to use it make come Christmas themed goodies...

Ok...so here's my fondant...not yet rolled flat...

and rolled fondant...

I like the surface...smooth and white =)
fondant uses lots n lots n lots of icing sugar...i used up almost half a pack

here's the recipe i used just in case anyone's interested:

Ingredients:
8 tablespoon unsalted butter
3/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
2/3 cup condensed milk
5 cups of sifted confectioner's sugar (icing sugar)

Method:

1. Beat butter,vanilla and salt till soft
2. Add milk slowly and beat till mixture is very light
3. Add sugar cup by cup
4. Dust work surface with extra cup of sugar (you can actually use cornflour if you dont want the fondant to be too sweet)
5.Turn fondant mixture out on the surface and work sugar in till it becomes pliable like PlayDoh

I am keeping my fondant in the fridge until future use...dont know how long it will last like that 'x' will keep u updated in my fondant adventure :P

Plan to use the fondant to cover some cupcakes...dont wanto be too adventurous on my first try with fondant...

MyPrivilegeBook 2009

I was sooooo happy and pleasantly surprised cos i think my post was rather shabby compared to the others...but who cares...now i have my very own copy of MyPrivilegeBook 2009!!

Went to collect it last Friday at The Spring...they gave me...

Cool!...i love desserts ice cream...

And a pillow...

Now i have 3 of these pillows (one from MyPrivilegeBook 2008 giveaway, one i won from this competition and another one which i won from the lucky draw when i went to collect MPB 2009)

And of cos ... there's the MPB 2009!!!

More restaurants are participating and more of them are giving discounts if you present your MPB Card...i think this is better than tearing out the coupons whenever you need to go dine at participating outlets...more convenient!

And i m gonna use the coupons in the book to do my hair b4 cny 2009! woot!

Gingerbread Man

I bought a gingerbread man cookie cutter last Saturday and so i proceeded on to practise baking some gingerbread. I have some plans for Christmas season :)

Just out of the oven...

Aiya...i think the cookie cutter abit not cun la...u see my gingerbread man doesn look rite :(

I decorated them with sprinkles ...

And another batch with sprinkles and choco chips as buttons :P

Actually i dont really like ginger bread but baking just for the sake of using my cookie cutter 'x' I wont bake another batch of ginger bread the nxt round...i think i will try some peanut butter cookies or something with my gingerbread man cookie cutter

I used this recipe from Agnes Chang's I Can Bake cookbook...i took a pic of the recipe with my handphone in the bookstore 'x'

But i really mean to buy the book....only not now....hahaha....honest!

and just in case you r interested .... my gingerbread man did not get up and run away when i baked them....hahaha "You can't catch me,I'm the gingerbread man"

Village Fast Food by Green Bento

The Green Bento company (the one of its kind office lunch delivery service) has just opened a Dine-in,Drive-in and Delivery concept outlet opposite the SUPP HQ.

We went on a Sunday afternoon and were greeted with empty tables...

Actually, we didnt expect to sit at this open-air, zinc roofed area

We thought the dine-in customers should be sitting at this air conditioned area which used to house the old Pitcher Plant drinking place...

U guys remember that place or not? it sort of held some 'memories' for us both ... hehehe =)

Ok lets not get out of topic...

He had Chicken Chop bento (RM6)

Came with 3 side dishes...

The chicken chop was actually chicken covered in bread crumbs and deep fried...much like what you would get from the office delivery menu

I on the other hand, ordered the Roast Chicken Sandwich (rm7.50) after my very pleasant experience with their roast chicken sandwich few months back when we ordered for lunch delivery

But this time, it disapointed me terribly :(

The chicken was very very tough and dry...i almost had tooth ache

Well, i just hope they would improve on their food soon if they are going to open a dine-in outlet. Being a lunch delivery service, customers won't be so critical on the food and price as you have to give them some credits for the free and punctual delivery service...but if they are planning to be successful in this dine-in thingy...they should really improve...

Bolt!

Went to watch Bolt the new Disney cartoon yesterday afternoon...

I must say it is yet again another high quality, entertaining animated film from Disney...go watch it.... i am not here to provide any spoilers...hehe

I just find it entertaining how Amazing Pets ( a local pet store) took the opportunity to advertise their pet shop...

There's a big balloon with a giant cut out of Rhino the hamster from the cartoon

And below the giant hamster ball...there are REAL hamsters!

Right smack in a cinema! that's something ive never seen before :)

I think its very good advertising....

Kids watch Bolt the cartoon...comes out from the hall and sees some hamsters..JUST LIKE RHINO FROM THE CARTOON!!!

(please concentrate on the christmas tree and not what's at the side 'x')

MOMMY I WANT SOME HAMSTERS FOR CHRISTMAS!!!

where to buy hamsters....?? Amazing Pets of course ;)

My Little Book of Savings!

Some of you who have been following my blog since last year might have read about my post where i talked about how i've won the MyPrivilegeBook 2008 from my post about Desserts.

I have been contemplating on purchasing the 2008 My Privilege book since its launch on the 1st of January 2008 but my procrastination got the better of me until i actually won a free copy! I was so excited when i first received it and i spent the whole afternoon flipping through the book to find out where i can go to get special discounts.

Like Desserts, the Star Cineplex, JF Beauty, Anna Cake Training Center and many more! These are among my favourite merchants! :)

My most precious MyPrivilegeBook coupon would have to be the Buy 1 free 1 coupons from Desserts! I really love those coupons so much! And i now have one more Buy 1 free 1 TRIPLE SCOOP ice cream which i am going to enjoy before the year ends.
